Cross-country: Taryn Rawlings nabs fourth top-10 finish as Wilsonville ends year at Class 5A state meet

Wildcats place 10th in boys, girls races


by: GREG ARTMAN - Taryn Rawlings (360) placed seventh at the Class 5A cross-country championships Nov. 2 at Lane Community College in Eugene. The senior earned four top-10 state finishes in her high school career.Taryn Rawlings finished the final cross-country season of her high school career with a top-10 finish at the state meet for the fourth year in a row.

The star Wilsonville runner completed the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes 4 seconds, placing seventh Nov. 2 at the Class 5A championships at Lane Community College in Eugene.

It was the fastest of her four state marks, besting the 19:09 she clocked to take runner-up honors as a freshman. She placed 10th as a sophomore and sixth last year.

Rawlings entered the OSAA meet after winning her third Northwest Oregon Conference title, but she ended up placing four spots behind the district runner-up (Liberty sophomore Rachel Khaw) at the state event. Khaw (18:47) snagged third behind Bend-Summit teammates Hannah Gindlesperger (17:53) and Olivia Brooks (18:37).

Summit, which was represented by four of the top 11 competitors, cruised to a team title with 33 points.

Rawlings helped Wilsonville take 10th out of 12 teams with 240 points. Also contributing to the girls’ score were freshman Haley Prusse (49th, 21:32) and juniors Emily Gillett (60th, 21:56), Chloe Tomlinson (69th, 22:30) and Toni Gowen (81st, 23:40).

The Wildcats also placed 10th on the boys side, tallying 237 points in a race dominated by Summit (38).

Standout junior Josh Meyer was Wilsonville’s top finisher, taking 36th place out of 94 runners with a 17:00. He was followed by senior Alex Tomlinson (53rd, 17:23), juniors Carlos Villagomez (54th, 17:23) and Kody Wilde (60th, 17:34) and senior Zach Uselman (74th, 17:50).

Summit junior Matthew Maton clocked a cool 14:59 to win the individual title.
