Wilsonville swim teams dominate against Putnam
Milwaukie—It was another solid night for Wilsonville's swim teams. At the end of the meet against Putnam and Milwaukie, Wilsonville walked away with wins. The boys team defeated Putnam 98-70, and the girls team defeated Putnam by a margin of 102-78. Wilsonville will be scored against Milwaukie in a future meet.
Of note on the girls side was Kayla Leon-Guerrero who was involved in four first place finishes for the Wildcats. Leon-Guerrero, along with seniors Sarah Carr and Emily Nguyen and freshman Abigail Maoz, took first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:06.02. Leon-Guerrero also placed first in the 100 yard freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle with times of 1:05.75 and 27.80, respectively. To start the night off, Leon-Guerrero, Carr, Nguyen, and Maoz won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:04.29.
Carr also had a big night. On top of the relay wins, Carr placed first in the 200 yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly with times of 2:20.32 and 1:03.21 respectively.
On the boys' side of things, the team picked up crucial wins in several events. In the 200-yard medley relay, sophomore Vincent Nguyen, freshman Cade Butterworth, senior Wesley Norris, and freshman Sebastian Pinger claimed first place with a time of 1:53.05.
Senior Pablo Campos came in at 2:30.86 in the 200-yard freestyle race. Pinger took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.87 seconds. Senior Wesley Norris turned in a time of 54.78 seconds in a first place performance in the 100-yard butterfly race, and followed that performance up with a 59 second first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke race.
Vincent Nguyen took first place in the 500-yard freestyle race at five minutes 44 seconds (5:44.55).
Wilsonville's teams next compete against Milwaukie, St. Helens, and Sandy at Parkrose High School on Jan. 13.
