School board member elected to Oregon School Board Associations board of directors

ReynoldsShe is a member of the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board and the vice president of the Clackamas Council of Oregon PTA. She sits on numerous local and state committees. Now, after winning election to the Oregon School Board Association’s board of directors Dec. 20, Betty Reynolds is stepping into another role.

OSBA is a member services agency serving local school districts, education service districts, charter schools and community colleges. Elected representatives from 21 regions in Oregon serve on the board of directors. Reynolds will represent the Clackamas region for a two-year term.

The WL-WV School Board is a member of OSBA and is actively engaged with the association. Reynolds said she hopes to use her position on both boards to make a difference locally.

Reynolds holds a doctorate in public administration and is especially interested in education policy. She intends to bring information on education policy and best practices from OSBA back to the WL-WV School Board.

“We’re undergoing major changes in education policy (with) Common Core, Smarter Balance (and) achievement compacts,” she said.

Citing research that links family and community engagement to student achievement, Reynolds said that is the reason for her interest in serving on the OSBA board.

“The reason I ran is to strengthen that link. In West Linn and Wilsonville, we’re fortunate to have the support of families and the community. I’m serving on the OSBA board and as Oregon PTA vice president to provide opportunities to strengthen family and community engagement. That’s going to be my focus,” she said. “It’s all about family and community engagement. That’s my mantra.”
