Volunteer to judge science fair next month

West Linn-Wilsonville’s Center for Research in Environmental Sciences and Technology is seeking volunteer judges for the CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium.

Judges are particularly needed for behavioral and social sciences this year, and people with degrees in psychiatry, psychology, counseling, sociology and social work are encouraged to participate. Judges with degrees in engineering and sciences are always needed.

More than 300 students have been developing and carrying out original research projects. The judging session for the ISEF-affiliated high school science fair will be Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you are interested in serving as a judge, contact Ellen Haugh at CREST, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 503-673-7000, ext. 6348.

Are your students in compliance with all their shots? Feb. 19 is exclusion day, and students who are not in compliance with immunization requirements will not be allowed to return to school following that date. So far this school year, 621 families have visited the Clothes Closet to seek clothing for children in need.

The Clothes Closet is located at the old Oregon City High School building, 1306 12th St. in Oregon City. It is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from September through May. Donations may also be left for the Clothes Closet at the main office of the building, which is open during normal school hours.

Register for kindergarten

It’s time to start registering incoming kindergarten students for the 2014-15 school year. Parents can pick up registration forms at their neighborhood school office or download forms from the school district’s website at wlwv.k12.or.us. Completed forms can be turned in to school offices at any time.

All-day kindergarten will continue to be tuition-based, with monthly payments of $390. A $125 deposit will be required at the time of registration; the deposit will be applied to the first month’s tuition. Scholarships are available. All-day kindergarten will be available at every school, and confirmation will be provided to families who register by Feb. 3. Half-day kindergarten is offered with no tuition payment and will be available at schools if demand allows.
