The Beavers bumped their record to 4-0-0. Jodan James scored twice, and Timmy Mueller got the winner in the 89th minute, knocking in the rebound after his penalty kick was saved.
“An overall team effort. Our guys found a way to win,” OSU coach Steve Simmons said.

Concordia 3, Linfield 1, at Concordia’s Tuominen Yard
The Cavaliers scored three times in the first half and raised their record to 2-1-0. Linfield fell to 3-1-0.
Cody Guthrie (13th minute), Brady Sanders (34th) and Tyler Hoiem (40th) scored for the Cavaliers.
The Wildcats’ Brady DeGrandmont scored at 89:57.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Portland 3, Cal Irvine 1, at Merlo Field
The Pilots led all the way in winning at the Nike Portland Invitational. Devlyn Jeter (third minute) and Cecilia Pedersen (38th minute) gave UP a 2-0 lead. The Anteaters scored in the 43rd minute, but Noelle La Prevotte struck in the 69th minute on a night when UP outshot the visitors 16-8.
Portland improved to 2-4-0. Cal Irvine dropped to 3-3-1.
The Pilots will play host to Cal State Northridge in another tourney game at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. At noon Sunday, Washington takes on Cal Irvine, also at Merlo Field.
Oregon 3, Air Force 0, at Pape Field, Eugene
The Ducks (2-5-0) scored three goals for the first time since 2013 in a 3-0 home win over Portland State. Marissa Everett , Kelsey Foo and Miranda Schulz scored for UO.
VOLLEYBALL
Portland def. St. Francis 25-18, 25-19, 25-16, at Chiles Center
Emily Liger’s 15 kills helped the Pilots (6-1) win their sixth match in a row as Portland began play in its North Harbour Marriott Invitational.
UNLV def. Portland State 22-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-7, at Las Vegas, Nev.
The Rebels (5-3) bounced back and dropped PSU (3-5) in the Rebel Challenge. Freshman Eva Linden had 18 kills, the most by a Viking this season. Pati Anae had her third double-double, getting 10 kills and 12 digs.
BYU def. Oregon State 25-16, 25-12, 25-16, at Provo, Utah
The ninth-ranked Cougars held OSU to .000 hitting while finishing at .308 on offense. “Our poorest passing performance of the season,” Beavers coach Taras Liskevych said. “We were never in system; therefore, our outside hitters always had to hit against two or three blockers and had a miserable night.”
Concordia def. Adelphia 25-21, 25-22, 25-19, at Monmouth
The Cavaliers are 6-0 after their sweep in the second day of the Western Oregon University Tournament. Jenessa Taylor (32 assists) and Shantel Gritsch (11 digs) helped the Cavs post the victory.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Portland Pilots men and women finished third in the Ash Creek XC Invitational at Monmouth. Leading UP runners were Courtney Cox, 10th among the women, and Ben Forsee, seventh in the men’s race.
The Concordia men placed seventh, and the Cavaliers men were 11th. Megan Fristoe was the fastest Cav woman, taking fourth. Jared Seckle, 43rd, was the first Concordia man across the finish line.
• Edward Cheserek of Oregon won for the ninth time in his last 10 races, and sophomore Alli Cox took first in the women’s event to pace the Ducks to victories at the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Pre’s Trail at Alton Baker Park.
The sixth-ranked Oregon men finished with 15 points, with Gonzaga (46) and Portland (85) next in line.
The No. 6 UO women had 23 points to Gonzaga’s 35 and PSU’s 78.
For the Vikings, Alex Cisneros was 17th among the men and Amanda Boman 13th in the women’s race.
