Patagonia is offering a free documentary screening about the longrunning fight over this iconic backcountry in British Columbia, where a huge ski resort is proposed.

Patagonia is offering a free showing in Portland of “Jumbo Wild,” a new one-hour documentary film about the decades-long fight over British Columbia’s Jumbo Valley.

A large ski resort is proposed in the Purcell Range wilderness, a backcountry ski and snowboarding destination, and an area considered sacred by First Nations.

The Jumbo Glacier Resort, first proposed in 1991, would include 23 ski lifts, 6,500 overnight lodging rooms and 1,300 private residences, plus shopping malls, night clubs, restaurants and other services.

The film will be shown at the Patagonia store at 907 NW Irving St. in Portland, on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m.

The film, by Sweetgrass Productions, is being used by Patagonia to promote the campaign to halt the development.
