Ducks sweep ASU in softball; Pepperdine rallies past UP baseball in 10th inning

SOFTBALL

Oregon 7, Arizona State 4, at Tempe, Ariz.

Koral Costa hit two home runs and Janelle Lindvall hit a three-run shot as the Ducks (35-6, 13-2 Pac-12) swept the Sun Devils (27-19, 3-12) in the Pac-12 series.

Koral Costa hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and adding a fifth-inning solo shot. Lindvall hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning. The Ducks had 11 hits.

The Sun Devils had 10 hits. Jennifer Soria hit a home run.

Megan Kleist got the win, although she gave up nine hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Washington 7, Oregon State 2, at OSU Softball Complex

Ali Aguilar hit two home runs and drove in four runs and the Huskies (30-10, 11-7 Pac-12) pounded out 13 hits to beat the Beavers (27-16-1, 6-12).

Tannon Snow went 3-for-3 for the Huskies.

Lovie Lopez hit a two-run homer for the Beavers.

Bev Miller and Meehra Nelson combined to give up 13 hits and seven earned runs.

BASEBALL

Pepperdine 5, Portland 4, at Malibu, Calif.

After the Pilots (15-24, 2-13 West Coast Conference) scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to take a 4-2 lead, the Waves (20-18, 10-8) scored three runs in the bottom of the 10th to win the game. The game-winning run scored on a bases-loaded walk.

In the 10th inning, UP’s Michael Forgione singled and later scored on a pitcher’s bad throw on a pick-off attempt. Ryan Barr hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Jason Rosen, who had singled.

But, Pepperdine’s Manny Jefferson tied it with a two-run homer off pitcher Marty Luckenback. A double, a walk and a UP error followed to load the bases, and Chris Fornaci drew a walk from pitcher Cameron Richman to push across the winning run.
