Police seize gun with extended magazine, cocaine during traffic stop

Police arrested two men and seized a handgun with an extended magazine and cocaine during a traffic stop in Southeast Portland late Wednesday.

The passenger, Dominque James Preston, 29, is charged with felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm. He is also being held on a parole violation.

The driver, Alex Michael Curtis, 23, is charged with possession of cocaine.

According to police, at 10:46 p.m. on Aug. 31, Gang Enforcement Team officers conducted a traffic stop at Southeast 89th Avenue and Holgate Boulevard. During the stop, officers observed a handgun lying at the feet of the passenger in the front seat. Both occupants were arrested without incident after they were asked to exit the vehicle.

Officers seized the handgun, which they discovered had an extended magazine loaded with a total of 29 rounds of ammunition.

The Tactical Operations Division’s Gang Enforcement Team (GET) and Gun Task Force (GTF) are continuing to investigate several incidents of gun violence citywide.
