• Ice skating sessions for the public are offered on a daily basis at the Portland Arena on Northwest 20th Avenue and Marshall Street. Ladies pay 10 cents per session. As advertised, for “gentlemen” the cost is 65 cents.
• At Tualatin Country Club, Emery Zimmerman rolls in a 6-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to defeat Ed “Porky” Oliver of Seattle and Larry Lamberger, the pro at Portland Golf Club, for the Northwest PGA Championship title. Oliver, listed at 5-9 and 240 pounds, would finish his pro career with eight PGA Tour victories and a second-place finish in three of golf’s four major championships
• The Oregon Ducks will face Portland in college baseball at Vaughn Street. First pitch is at 8:15 p.m.
