Portland's GoHealth urgent care clinics will offer a new rapid COVID-19 test to first responders.

Three of 14 Portland-area clinics plan to offer Abbott’s rapid COVID-19 test that can confirm the virus infection in about five minutes.

The test received FDA emergency use authorization. It’s run on the Abbott ID NOW platform that GoHealth has been using for more than a year for flu and strep testing.

GoHealth will provide the rapid testing in Washington, Oregon and California hot spots through Legacy Health-GoHealth Urgent Care and Dignity Health-GoHealth Urgent Care networks. The clinics will offer the tests first to potentially exposed front-line medical personnel and other first responders, including local police, fire and other emergency personnel.

Patients with severe symptoms are able to be evaluated by a health care provider using GoHealth Urgent Care’s Virtual Visits. The provider will then schedule a next-day appointment for the patient to get tested.

GoHealth Urgent Care of Atlanta operates about 150 urgent care centers in 10 states.
