Business alliance sides with Friday’s peaceful protest

Workers on Saturday, May 30, help clean up a storefront hit by rioters during the night.

The Portland Business Alliance on Saturday released a statement in support of Friday’s peaceful protests, regarding the in-custody death of Minneapolis man George Floyd, and condemning the rioting and looting that lasted well into Saturday morning.

“We stand with the peaceful protests and demonstrations that occurred yesterday afternoon, but to see what occurred overnight is by no means acceptable in our city or any city or any place at any time,” said Andrew Hoan, president & CEO of the alliance, which serves as a Chamber of Commerce for Portland. “We stand with the folks who are here on the ground today, trying to fix what’s broken and so our city can reopen.”
