For nearly 100 years, Portland institution Helen Bernhard Bakery has been creating delicious baked goods out of their converted home storefront. In 1924 Ben Bernhard was a minister and Helen opened her shop selling cakes to local neighbors.

Through time, the bakery has been passed down through families and expanded both the building and the menu. Today, under ownership of Mike and Kellie Snaadt, Helen Bern-hard Bakery strives to retain it’s rich Portland history while baking quality goods that customers have come to love. From cakes, including elaborate wedding cakes, to cookies and pies, coffee cakes, cupcakes, bread and scones, Helen Bernhard bakery has been baking pastries for celebrations and everyday life; generations of Portlanders have celebrated life’s significant moments with a Helen Bernhard creation.

Currently the family-owned bakery is retaining as many of the 25-employee staff as possible and are following state guidelines for coronavirus protocols. Customers are limited in the storefront with curbside pickup and limited delivery available.

Today is the perfect time to support a local business. Smaller cakes are available as is individual packaging so items can be dropped off to friends and fa m i ly.
