Lake Oswego ducks snatched from construction site coop

Two live ducks were stolen from their habitat at the Mercato Grove development on Kruse Way and Boones Ferry Road this week.

The development, known to many as Mercantile Village, is located on six acres and consists of 206 apartments, parking and 49,000 square feet of retail space.

There are four Rouen ducks in a fenced habitat on the property, and Tuesday evening, June 1, Lola the duck was stolen. The next night, Brooke, a second duck, was reported stolen.

“Honestly, I’m heartbroken,” Damin Tarlow, lead project developer at High Street Residential, said in an email to the Review. “We raised these ducks since they were small chicks, acclimating them to our habitat and caring for them. Please, whoever took Lola and Brooke, there will be no questions asked if they are returned safely to the habitat or our leasing office located at 4055 Mercantile Drive in Lake Oswego.”

The secured coop was believed to be broken open with wire cutters.

“The duck sisters were specially raised for this habitat and are cared for by dedicated Mercato Grove staff,” read a statement from Mercato Grove. “They are not acclimated for life outside their habitat or in the wild. For their safety, Penny and Wally have been relocated until further notice.”
