One dies in early Sunday crash

The person who was critically injured in an early Sunday crash in Southeast Portland has died in the hospital, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Two other people were hospitalized with injuries. None of the names has been released.
Police say the crash was the third fatal collision of 2022.
According to police, at 2:52 a.m. on Jan. 9, East Precinct officers responded to a report of a crash on Southeast 82nd Avenue just south of Southeast Foster Road. When they arrived, the officers found two damaged vehicles at Southeast Ellis Street. One occupant was pinned in a vehicle.

Portland Fire & Rescue and an AMR ambulance responded. The pinned occupant was extricated from the vehicle. Three patients were transported to the hospital for their injuries. All were conscious and talking at the scene and their injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.
While following up on the crash at the hospital several hours later, officers learned that one of the patient’s injuries had deteriorated and were considered life threatening.
