WHAT TO WATCH FOR
This shapes up as a close game, especially compared with PSU’s recent struggled against ranked Big Sky Conference opponents. Portland State and Eastern Washington are tied for eighth-place in the 12-team Big Sky Conference. The Vikings have lost consecutive games to ranked teams Weber State and Idaho. The Eagles are coming off a 17-10 win at Cal Poly that halted a run of five losses.
Portland State averages 21.4 points on offense and is allowing 36.7. Eastern Washington scores 24 points a game and allows a league-worst 42.3 PSU will try to gain some momentum on offense against an opponent allowing 524yards a game (289 on the ground).
Both teams have first-year starters at quarterback. PSU’s Dante Chachere has 1642 yards of net offense and 17 touchdowns. EWU’s Gunner Talkington has 1,698 net yards … and 17 touchdowns.
Playing on the red turf at Roos Field is always interesting. And temperatures in the 40s will be a new experience this season for the Vikings.
