September 18, 1932 to December 20, 2023 – On the morning of December 20th, Bill, age 91, passed at his foster care home in Cornelius, Oregon after a long illness. He was comforted by family.
Bill was born September 18, 1932, in Anaconda, Montana. He was the first of eight children to John William Morgan, who emigrated from Wales, and Dorothy Helen James, whose parents emigrated from Wales.
Bill worked hard to help support his large family when times were hard. He excelled in track and field while attending Toledo High School in Toledo, Oregon. He worked on the high school yearbook committee, which lead to becoming the local sports reporter for the Toledo newspaper.
Bill then met and married the love of his life, Shirley Hutchens. He was soon drafted into the Army and was stationed in Germany. Shirley joined him and they spent the first nine months of married life there.
They raised their five children in Hillsboro, attending the United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school many years, as did his grandfather from Wales. He served on the library board and was instrumental in building the community’s first substantial library.
Bill was a passionate humanitarian working on community projects to improve the lives of children. Bill joined the Active 20-30 club and served as President one year. He loved the club and developed many meaningful and lasting friendships.
Bill and Shirley moved to Cannon Beach, after their children were grown, and they loved living at the beach. Bill was a realtor in the community and began his humanitarian work there through the local fire station where he assisted in building a new fire station and developing the community Tsunami plan.
Bill was a wonderful role model and father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He was adept at teaching life lessons and making sure his children valued hard work and caring for others. Family was so important to him, and he wanted to ensure his Welsh heritage was always remembered. In his later years, he enjoyed building his family’s legacy through Ancestry.
Bill was preceded in death by his infant son Ricky and brother Robert (Bud) Morgan. He is survived by his wife Shirley Morgan (Hutchens), sons David and Mike, Kelly and his children (Cooper and Anna), daughter Ranae Calderon (Michael) and her children Brandon (Phoenix his daughter) and Marissa, son Shawn Morgan (Cheryl) and his children Monica Stadelman (Ben) and her children (Coralynn, Lincoln, Eleanor and Aurora) and Brett.
