Lee Castillo

February 14, 1943 – January 16, 2024 – Catalino (Lee) Pascual Calhoun Castillo was born February 14, 1943 in San Francisco, California to Catalino Mata Pascual Castillo and Thelma Dorothy Calhoun. The family moved to Fruitvale, Oregon where Lee attended Fruitvale School and then McLoughlin Union High School in Milton-Freewater. He was the oldest of four children and was joined by siblings; Tom, Judi and Nick. As a teen he worked at Umatilla Canning Company there in Milton-Freewater. After his junior year at Mac Hi Lee joined the National Guard and later the Army. He then enlisted in the Navy September 26, 1963. He was assigned to duty on the USS Coral Sea, an aircraft carrier that saw action in the Vietnam War. An Aviation Boatswain’s Mate and Machinery Repairman he earned the rank of E-4. For his service he earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star and Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. He was honorably discharged September 7, 1967.

Lee married Linda Jenise Carter February 1, 1968 in Vancouver, Washington. Sadly, their daughter, Diana Jo Castillo died at birth August 1, 1970. Lee moved to Portland, Oregon and worked at various jobs. He met and married Jeri Allyn Sutphin May 14, 1971. They first lived in Verboort and then in Cornelius. Lee worked as a police officer, an insulation installer and truck driver for local companies. His family was everything and he worked hard to provide for them. Lee lastly lived in Salem. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ January 16, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Tom, daughter, Diana Jo, his wife Jeri and her son Gordon Squires. He is survived by his sister, Judi Baker and her husband, Nate of Salem, brother Nick Castillo and his wife, Marian of Damascus, Oregon, numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
