Citizens unite: Oregon State Fair time takes place Aug. 23-Sept. 2 in Salem

The Oregon State Fair provides rides of all kinds, including one where you can see the entire fairgrounds. The fair happens Aug. 23-Sept. 2 in Salem.

It’s the special time of year — Oregon State Fair time, as the big doings happen at Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem, Aug. 23-Sept. 2.

There’ll be the usual fair fun, a carnival, animals and concerts.

Attractions include the Hell on Hooves Roughstock Rodeo (Aug. 24), Jaripeo Spectacular (Aug. 25), Motorsports Spectacular (Aug. 31, Sept. 1) and VIP Small Car Demolition (Sept. 2). The series of Family Fun Camp events includes barnyard races, petting farm, farm activities, clowns, Flying Fools High Dive Show, a hypnotist and magic show, Puppy Pals Live and Sea Lion Splash. There’ll also be competitions in creative living and livestock.

The Umpqua Bank Concert Series lineup (evening shows): Craig Morgan, Friday, Aug. 23; Steel Pulse, Saturday, Aug. 24; Goo Goo Dolls, Monday, Aug. 26; Yung Gravy, Tuesday, Aug. 27; Josh Turner, Wednesday, Aug. 28; Ludacris, Thursday, Aug. 29; Daya, Friday, Aug. 30; Foreigner, Saturday, Aug. 31; Huntley (from “The Voice”), Jacquie Roar, Monday, (4 p.m.) Sept. 2.

Discounted tickets at O’Reilly Auto Parts — Through Aug. 22, you can buy individual adult tickets for $10 or children’s tickets for $8. A family 4-pack from O’Reilly for just $20 (two kids, two adults).

$1 Senior Admission — Through Aug. 22, anyone 65 or older can buy a ticket for $1 ($3 once the fair begins).

Free parking with Wilco — Buy something at a Wilco, get free one-day parking at the fair, available through Sept. 2 or while supplies last.

$5 Friday — Sponsored by Mattress Firm, tickets are only $5 when purchased at the box office on Aug. 23.

Share at the Fair — Bring two cans of food to the Oregon State Fair on Aug. 28 and get $2 off admission.
