Traffic alert: ODOT to shut down seven Highway 217 ramps next weekend

Here's a look at the on- and off-ramps that will be closed at night Sept. 20-23.

Motorists traveling southbound along Highway 217 should be prepared for the closure of seven on- and off-ramps between Southwest Allen Boulevard and Southwest Greenburg Road as the Oregon Department of Transportation resurfaces them.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, and ending at 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, Allen Boulevard, Hall Boulevard and Scholls Ferry Road off-ramps will close. The Greenburg Road off-ramp will also close, but only at night on Sunday, Sept. 22.

On-ramps that will shut down on those dates include Denney Road, Hall Boulevard and Scholls Ferry Road.

“Crews will grind down the pavement on the existing ramps and lay down a top, final layer of asphalt to tie in with the new auxiliary lanes and make for a smooth driving surface,” ODOT said in a statement. “Closing the ramps for a weekend allows us to pave faster and more efficiently and provides a safer work zone for our crews and travelers. The contractor may open or close the identified ramps as work progresses.”

If needed, those paving dates could be extended to the following weekend to finish the project, ODOT officials warned.

Also, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, nighttime directional closures on Highway 217 are planned between Greenburg Road and Highway 99W until Saturday, Sept. 28.

Crews will be installing horizonal steel beams to support the new Hall Boulevard overpass in Tigard. However, the lanes will reopen for daytime traffic.
