Mt. Hood Meadows opens this week, the earliest ski season in more than a decade

More above average snowfall, Mt. Hood Meadows is soft opening its ski season this weekend, the earliest ski season in 15 yers.

Starting Friday, Nov. 15, Mt. Hood Meadows plans to open two weeks ahead of schedule, thanks to ideal conditions on the mountain, according to the ski park. Skiiers and snowboarders typically have to wait until Thanksgiving weekend to hit the slopes.
A select number of lifts — Meadows’ Buttercup, Easy Rider, Daisy lifts, and the Ballroom Carpet conveyor — will be in operationwill run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 15-17.
“Early season conditions exist, and guests are asked to stay on groomed runs and watch for unmarked obstacles,” Mt. Hood Meadows said in a statement. “After the preview weekend, Meadows will reevaluate conditions midweek and provide an update about additional operating days, lifts, and terrain.”

Other ski destinations in Oregon, including Timberline Lodge and Mount Bachelor, are also planning openings this week.
Mt. Hood Meadows Resort President Greg Pack said more snow is expected.
“It’s such an incredible position to be in to be able to open ahead of schedule,” Pack said. “We’re excited to kick off what’s sure to be another amazing season of skiing and riding.”
