Thousands soak up ‘Christmas spirit’ with 40th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Pioneer Courthouse Square

Thousands of people attended the 40th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Portland to get a bit of holiday cheer the night of Friday, Nov. 29

High school choirs, city officials and community members all gathered at Pioneer Courthouse Square to watch the tree light up in the spirit of the season.

“Trying to come down and take the grandkids out and experience the Christmas spirit,” said Lucius Jackson, who waited hours in advance with his family.

Jackson said it’s the first time he and his family has come down to witness the tree lighting ceremony in 15 years.
