Oregon Community Foundation doles out awards to nonprofits

The Oregon Community Foundation has announced grants to nonprofits around the state, totaling more than $2.6 million for agencies in the Portland Metro region and North Coast.

Statewide, the new round of funding includes 248 grants for nearly $5.8 million.

The philanthropic foundation has been around since 1973, focusing on grantmaking, scholarships and research.

“Collectively, these projects support community resources that help to build a sense of belonging in the communities we serve,” said Karis Stoudamire-Phillips, a member of the foundation’s board and vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion. “From job training to mental health support to services to people experiencing homelessness, Oregon Community Foundation is extremely proud to support our nonprofit partners making a difference in the metro region and all across our state.”

Among the local groups that benefit is Germain’s Culinary Inc. of Portland, which received $20,000.

Germaine’s Culinary provides hands-on training to people experiencing intellectual or developmental disabilities, with students working alongside professional chefs to gain skills that prepare them for community-based employment, which in turn translates to empowerment and independence, according to Lori Irish Bauman, its founder and board chair.
