Power out, one school closed after late night Hillsboro crash

A school in Hillsboro is closed Monday. Dec. 9, and several homes are without power after a car smashed into a power line in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday, according to Hillsboro Police.

The vehicle — described as a black SUV — crased into a power line near Southeast Oak Street and Fifth Avenue shortly after 11 p.m., Dec. 8. The crash knocked out power to about 25 homes and businesses in the area, including St. Matthew Catholic School, 221 S.E. Walnut St.
The school announced Monday it would be closed for the day, as crews with Portland General Electric work to restore power to the area.
Officials with PGE expect power to resume around noon.
