Awesome animation: OMSI presents Studio Ghibli Film Fest

It’s become one of Portland’s most popular film festivals, and now it’s 10 years old.

Studio Ghibli Film Fest, highlighting the work of the great Japanese animation studio, returned to Oregon Museum of Science and Industry‘s Empirical Theater, through Feb. 9.

The highlight is the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the United States release of “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

Daily showings Jan. 10 to Feb. 9 include fan favorites such as “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Kiki’s Delivery Service,” “Spirited Away,” “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” and Hayao Miyazaki’s most recent film, “The Boy and the Heron.”

For more than 30 years, Japan’s Studio Ghibli has created some of the most revered and beloved animated works and characters and established itself as one of the world’s finest producers of animated motion pictures in the world.

With a reputation for lush visuals, attention to detail and epic storytelling, Studio Ghibli creates intelligent, poetic, often fanciful films that embrace family, community and a deep concern for the environment.

Tickets for all festival screenings are available at $9 for adults, $7 for youth, and $8 for seniors; OMSI members receive a 50% discount on individual tickets.
