Update: TriMet readies trains, suspends some bus services for winter weather

- TriMet buses began to take on snow routes early Thursday, Feb. 13, in anticipation of more snow and the possibility of freezing rain.
As snow coats the Portland area Thursday, Feb. 13, TriMet is preparing its buses and trains for the winter storm ahead.

Several bus lines that serve high-elevation routes have been suspended for safety, such as Line 63-Washington Park.
Heavy-duty chains are being placed on all buses.
“As the snow piles up and with a mix of freezing rain or ice expected, we’d like to remind everyone to please use caution going to and from stops and stations, when using stairs or simply walking down the sidewalk,” TriMet spokesperson Tia York said. “These areas will become slick, and we want everyone to stay safe.

TriMet already has seen disruptions of its MAX Orange and Yellow Lines in the early morning due to a tree falling on overheard wires. Crews are actively working to resolve the issue, though it may take a couple of hours.
Shuttle buses are serving riders between the Expo Center and the North Lombard Transit Center.
MAX Blue, Green and Red Lines are providing regular service as of about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13.
“We’d like to remind riders that when buses are chained, they can travel no faster than 25 miles per hour, and we appreciate their patience,” York said.
LIFT will provide limited paratransit service and works directly with riders so they know when adjustments are being made due to winter weather.
TriMet’s Customer Support Center at Pioneer Courthouse Square is closed today.
