Jet Black Pearl is one of the musicians playing noon concerts at locations on the Portland Transit Mall in the "In Concert" series.

Concerts are held at a lot of venues around Portland. And, now you can sit (or stand) and enjoy music at the Portland Transit Mall in downtown Portland.

Portland Mall Management, Portland Bureau of Transportation and TriMet are working ”In Concert” with Pioneer Courthouse Square and members of Portland’s vibrant performance community to bring free programming to the heart of downtown. The year’s series began Tuesday, Feb. 18 and will run through June 26 over the lunch hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will showcase 42 artists, performing at 11 high-traffic retail locations throughout the Portland Transit Mall.

Over the last five years, over 400 artists have performed in this unique series. Multi-instrumentalist Machado Mijiga kicked off the series on Feb. 18, and he’ll play another concert this spring.

Live performances will continue throughout spring and into summer along Southwest Fifth and Sixth avenues and Morrison and Yamhill streets. From MC Shoehorn a locally renowned tap-dancing saxophonist and the traffic-stopping Brazilian Brother Duo, Johnny Franco and his Real Brother Dom, to young prodigy Gus Jeffers in the R&B and pop scene, “In Concert” brings a diverse blend of performers to downtown for all to experience.

“It’s hard to believe I’ve been a part of this series for half a decade now, and I’m so grateful to continue to bring my music to an ever-expanding roster of artists and creatives,” said “In Concert” performer Machado Mijiga. “It warms my heart to know that so many of us have a platform to present our art to the masses in a way that feels personal, yet much more relaxed than your average concert experience. Here’s to many more years of ‘In Concert!’”
