July 12, 1920 – February 27, 2025 – Avis “Jane” Lostetter, a cherished member of the Portland community and a dedicated physical therapist, passed away on February 27, 2025, at the age of 104. Born on July 12, 1920, in Hollywood, California, Jane embarked on a life characterized by service and passion. She pursued higher education in physical therapy, attending both UCLA and the USC Physical Therapy Program, which laid the foundation for her impactful career.

Her career spanned across California, Minnesota, and Oregon, where she dedicated herself to helping others regain and improve their physical abilities. Jane also contributed her expertise as a patient simulator at Chiropractic College Labs, aiding in the education and training of future chiropractors.

Beyond her professional life, Jane was an active member of her community. She was a devout attendee of Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church and engaged in various roles including PEO Member and Girl Scout Leader. Her hobbies included singing in the church choir, traveling, reading, and gardening. Jane had a particular talent for cultivating beautiful roses and rhododendrons. She was also a dedicated Winterhawk season ticket holder for 25 years.

Jane was married to Clinton Howard Lostetter on December 23, 1943, a union marked by love and companionship, they were married for 50 years until his passing in December 1993. She is survived by her daughter Ruth; niece Cathie; and nephews Craig, Charles, Paul, and Mark; along with many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; first and second cousins; and a wide circle of friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Clinton Lostetter; her parents Minnie Fern (Toothaker) and father Frederick Charles Whiting; and her sister Medora Ann “DoDee” Wiese.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jane can be made to Savage Memorial Church Music, Best Friends Animal Rescue in Kanab, UT, or Snowcap, honoring her love for music and care for animals.

Jane Lostetter will be deeply missed by all who knew her, remembered for her kindness, spirit, and the profound impact she had on her community and profession.
