Starting Tuesday, March 18, the Southeast Portland library will close to the public for a series of bond-funded improvements. It’s last day open will be Monday, March 17, and project teams expect the project to last until the summer.
Some smaller Multnomah County libraries are receiving renovations as part of its “Refresh” projects, which provide revitalization efforts on a shorter schedule compared to its five other larger projects.
Upgraded features will include:
- Improved shelf height to create more space for people and better sight lines.
- A children’s area with new, movable furniture.
- A teen area with plush seating and study tables.
- New reading room chairs (both with and without arms) as well as lounge chairs in the adult area.
- Automated materials handling to increase the efficiency of checking in and sorting books.
- A tech bar area for patrons to use the copy machine, scanner and computers.
- New, lightweight meeting room chairs and tables.
- Fresh paint and new carpet.
