John Creswell McCormick

John Creswell McCormick passed away surrounded by his family and friends on July 31, 2024, two weeks before his 75th birthday.

John liked to joke that he was 75-years-young and had a relentless pursuit of life that found him fishing on the shores of Lake Odell even in his final days. Well-dressed, quick-witted, and kind, he had an unusual ability to turn strangers into friends and loved to make others smile. John leaves behind a countless number of friends and an even greater number of stories that will remind us all to love more deeply, live more freely, and share a good laugh at the end of each and every day.

John was the first born son of Donald B. McCormick and Susan P. McCormick. Born in Portland, he graduated from Riverdale Elementary and Lake Oswego High School before attending Menlo College and the University of Denver. He maintained close relationships from his elementary and high school years, and strong ties to Oregon throughout his life.

John loved sports from an early age and he was good at them. He was a golfer, skier, tennis player, fisherman and bird hunter. He was a businessman who started his career in finance at Shearson Lehman and who later loved the entrepreneurial world. He never underestimated the power of a good joke, and no day passed by without him sharing one of his many tales and laughing heartily with a friend.

John is survived by his daughter, Amanda McCormick, and his former wife of twenty-five years, Paula McCormick. John leaves behind his siblings and their families: brother Peter McCormick (Kathleen Albrecht) and sister Anne McCormick Berg (James Berg), nephews Ian McCormick (Bridgett), Cameron McCormick (Alyssa), Charlie Berg (Anya Miller Berg) and Peter Berg (Erin Phillips).

A private family celebration of John’s life was held on December 21, 2024 in Seattle, WA.
