How the Shamrock Run will affect Portland traffic

Here's a great photo from a recent Shamrock Run. The big, annual Portland event takes place Sunday, March 16, followed by a post-race party at Waterfront Park in partnership with Kells Portland's Irish Festival.

Thousands of runners will take to the downtown Portland streets for the 47th annual Shamrock Run on Sunday morning, participating in events ranging from the 4-mile stride walk to the 13.1-mile half-marathon.

However, event organizers are cautioning commuters to be aware of nearly 10 full or partial closures to streets on the run’s route, centered on sections of Southwest Naito Parkway, Southwest Barbur Boulevard and Southwest Capitol Highway.

Some of these closures even go into effect as early as 5 p.m. Saturday.
