According to a press release, deputies dispatched to a reported crash around 11:19 p.m. Saturday night near Southeast 72nd Avenue and Southeast Alberta Avenue. When they first arrived, officers were not able to locate the car but eventually discovered a compact SUV engulfed in flames on a property at Southeast 74th Avenue and Southeast Label Lane. The press release noted the car was a significant distance from where it left the roadway.
Clackamas Fire arrived to extinguish the flames and discovered the car’s only occupant was dead.
“At this writing, investigators believe the driver was traveling southbound on SE 72nd Avenue when they failed to negotiate a sharp 90-degree turn,” the release stated. “As a result, the vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed, became airborne due to the elevated terrain, and first made impact on the Springwater Corridor. It is believed the vehicle then briefly went airborne again before ultimately landing upside down near SE Label Lane and SE 74th Avenue.”
