Free Cone Day started in 1979, and is all about thanking fans. This year, it’s from noon-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, giving customers the chance for scoop, or two, or three, on the house.
So, what’ll it be? Phish Food? Cherry Garcia? Maybe, a little Chunky Monkey?
“Free Cone Day has always been about gratitude — we want to thank our fans for being the best fans in the world with free ice cream and a moment of pure joy,” Dave Stever, Ben & Jerry’s CEO, said in a statement. “This year, more than ever, we’re reminded how powerful those small moments of happiness can be.”

Co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield started the annual day to thank fans for helping their Burlington, Vermont, startup shop survive its first frigid winter. Now, it’s a global celebration in more than 35 countries.
The joy doesn’t stop at one scoop, fans are encouraged to get back in line as many times as they’d like to try out the menu.
