Donald Horn spent a lot of time around the late Walter Cole, aka the great drag queen Darcelle, before his passing in March 2023.
Besides being a good friend, Horn wrote a book about Darcelle and a musical and it staged at Lincoln Performance Hall before Cole’s passing.
Now Horn and Triangle Productions will be bringing back the musical, “That’s No Lady,” June 5-22.
The story:
The musical traces the life of Walter Cole looking through the past 52 years. Walter and Jerry Ferris’ friendship forged into a drag act that in 1974 transformed the Demas Tavern into Darcelle XV Showplace. Through a chance encounter, Walter would meet Roc Neuhardt, a local dancer, and their relationship would last 47 years until Roc’s death in 2017.
Kevin C. Loomis will return in the lead role.
Book and original song will be by Horn (along with direction) with additional lyrics and music by Tom Grant, Marv/Rindy Ross, Jon Quesenberry, Storm Large, Rody Ortega, Wesley Bowers. Additional songs like “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Hangem’ High,” “Send in the Clowns,” “Bad Girls,” and “Proud Mary” are also part of the musical.
It’ll be staged at Triangle Productions’ home, The Sanctuary at Sandy Plaza.
