Oregon State football adds FCS power to 2026 schedule

While the 2025 football season is still several months away, the Oregon State Beavers are beginning to fill out their 2026 schedule, announcing the addition of Montana on Monday, April 21.

Oregon State’s game against Grizzlies will be played Sept. 19, 2026, as a non-conference matchup at Reser Stadium.

Montana hails from the Big Sky Conference of the Football Championship Subdivision, where the program has been a powerhouse. The Grizzlies have appeared in the FCS playoffs in each of the last five years (excluding the 2020 pandemic-shorted season), including a FCS National Championship loss in 2023.

The two have played one another 16 times, with the most recent being a 35-14 win by Montana in Corvallis in 1996. Oregon State holds a 12-2-2 lead over the Grizzlies, including a 9-2-1 record in matchups at Reser Stadium.

The 2026 season will be the new-look Pac-12 Conference’s inaugural season. San Diego State, Fresno State, Colorado State, Utah State, Gonzaga and Boise State will join Washington State and Oregon State as the eight members of the conference.

The Pac-12 still has to add one more football program, with Gonzaga not sponsoring football and NCAA conference eligibility rules requiring eight teams. It remains unclear who the Pac-12 could be targeting as its ninth member and eighth football program.

According to FBSchedules.com, Oregon State was initially slated to play a non-conference road game against San Diego State on Sept. 19, 2026, when the Montana matchup is now scheduled for. San Diego State is expected to remain on the schedule, but would likely be played later in the season as a conference game.

If the Pac-12 adds a single team to be its eighth football member ahead of the 2026 season, the conference would likely play seven conference games and five non-conference matchups to fill out each members’ 12-game schedule.

Currently, Oregon State has three non-conference games on the docket for 2026. The home game against Montana joins a roadtrip to Houston on Sept. 5, 2026 and a second home game against Texas Tech on Sept. 12.
