Spanning nearly four decades, Portland’s 38th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta is returning to the Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
From May 2-5, hosted by the Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association and Treadway Events, attendees can get a taste of Mexico right in the Rose City.
Rain or shine, the fiesta will continue.
“The Portland Cinco de Mayo Fiesta has been part of Portland for nearly 40 years, and this year feels especially important. It’s always been about more than great food or live music—it’s about creating a space where everyone feels welcome, where culture is celebrated, and where the community can come together. In times like these, that connection matters more than ever,” Brandon Treadway, Treadway Events president, said.
This event is Oregon’s largest multicultural celebration, which features live performances, authentic cuisine and more, according to a press release.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 2, to Sunday, May 4, and continues from 4-10 p.m. on Monday, May 5.
Here’s what’s in store:
- Live music: Mariachi Ciudad de Guadalajara — a Mexican symbol recognized worldwide — will perform and be joined by a lineup of artists throughout the event, including Grupo Mparable and Ballet Folklorico Mexico En La Sangre.
- Authentic cuisine: More than 30 food vendors will offered Mexican treats and meals.
- Artisan crafts: The Guadalajara Artisan Village will be filled with unique, handmade items for sale.
- Family fun: Those of all ages can find carnival rides, games and cultural activities.
- Plaza de Niños: It’s a “magical” spot for kids to find free crafts, face painting and interactive fun.
- Other notable features of Portland Cinco De Mayo Fiesta include: Lucha Libre Wrestling, Lowrider Car Show, Rip City Boxing and a Catholic Mass event.
AC Hotel Portland and Courtyard Portland City Center are offering special Cinco de Mayo booking rates for those traveling.
The Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association fosters cultural exchange between Portland and Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, where events like the Portland Cinco de Mayo Fiesta celebrates the connection between the two cities.
