Police clear NE Portland home of ‘squatters,’ seize drugs and guns

Portland Police Bureau cleared a home in the Parkrose Heights neighborhood of “squatters” on Tuesday, April 29, finding drugs, guns, a stolen motorcycle and more.

Officials said the homeowner was facing medical challenges and was no longer living at the home. While he was away, it was taken over by alleged drug dealers and an individual posing as a landlord who was illegally charging people to live on the property.

Police contacted 13 people and arrested nine on various charges and outstanding warrants, according to a press release.

The search reportedly resulted in the recovery of one illegally possessed firearm, 22 grams of methamphetamine, 13 grams of fentanyl, 1 gram of cocaine, $1,440 in seized currency, a recovered stolen motorcycle, a “significant amount” of ammunition, and evidence of identity theft, fraud and narcotics distribution.

Police received calls over the past year and complaints from neighborhoods, according to the news release. Once the home was cleared, it was secured. Police are working with the proper owner’s family and care team to regain control of the residence.

The following were arrested:

  • Tyler Dean Roberts, 32, for first-degree burglary; attempted distribution of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; attempted unlawful manufacture/delivery of schedule II drugs; unlawful possession of schedule II drugs; and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
  • Melissa Ann Sponsler, 44, for first-degree burglary.
  • Michael Chene, 38, for failure to appear warrant on second-degree theft out of Clackamas County.
  • Charles Bernard Gainer, 32, for first-degree burglary and 14 counts of identity theft.
  • Erin Leeann Weber, 43, for failure to appear warrant on second-degree theft out of Clackamas County; failure to appear out of Multnomah County. Police said upon being taken into custody, Weber claimed to have swallowed narcotics. As a result, officers were required to maintain observation for six hours, including accompanying Weber during an ambulance transport to the hospital, where she was medically evaluated and released, according to a press release. Prior to arrest, Weber was allegedly located hiding under a piece of particle board beneath a mattress inside a trailer for three hours.
  • Rita Silonsochilt, 31, for failure to appear out of Clackamas County.
  • Charles Christopher Kelly, 47, for first-degree burglary.
  • Kethleen Lynn Conklin, 29, for a failure to appear warrant for possession of a controlled substance II out of Washington County.
  • Destinee Alexis Davidson, 27, for a Failure to Appear warrant for second-degree theft out of Marion County;  failure to appear warrant for first-degree theft out of Marion County; and failure to appear warrant for fourth-degree attempted assault/harassment out of Clackamas County.
