A midweek matchup between the No. 10-ranked Oregon State Beavers and the Portland Pilots baseball teams has been cancelled, the two athletic departments announced Tuesday, May 6.

The game was slated for 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at Goss Stadium in Corvallis and will not be made up. Tickets purchased for the game will be automatically refunded, according to the press release from Oregon State.

The cancellation was mutually agreed upon by the programs’ head coaches, Oregon State’s Mitch Canham and Portland’s Geoff Loomis. Spokespersons from each athletic department cited travel reasons for the decision.

The Beavers returned from a four-game series at Hawai’i on Tuesday morning and are set to depart Thursday for a three-game series against Iowa in Des Moines that begins Friday night. The Pilots haven’t played since Saturday, but will get an extra day of rest before their road series against San Francisco on Friday afternoon.  Oregon State now has seven games left on its schedule, with 54-total this year. Portland will finish its season having played 51, with seven of its own left.

The two teams will still face each other one more time in 2025, with a 5:35 p.m. matchup on Tuesday, May 13 at Goss Stadium. Oregon State won the first bout 10-6 at Hillsboro Ballpark.

Both teams will be back in action on Friday. Portland will face San Francisco at 2 p.m. at the Dons’ Benedetti Diamond, while No. 10 Oregon State takes on Iowa at 4:30 p.m. at Duane Banks Field in Des Moines.
