May is National Bike Month and Get There partners in the greater Metro region have announced the 2025 Bike Month Challenge.
Hosted by the regional government Metro, Oregon Department of Transportation, local governments and community partners, the month-long challenge is open to anyone living or working in the Metro region, which includes the urban portions of Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas Counties.
Participants can win prizes by logging any bike trip, manual or e-bike, on the Get There Oregon website — whether commuting to work or just cruising around town.
Now through Saturday, May 31, Bike Month participants who log bike trips will qualify for weekly prize drawings, monthly grand prize drawings and will be in the running for the title of Team or Individual Bike Month Champions. Participants can join a work team or form their own team.
Free to join
Sign up for the challenge through Get There. Those who are not already a user can visit GetThereOregon.org to get started. To find the Challenge, click Programs in the top menu bar of any page then click Challenges to see the Bike Month Challenge.
People may join an existing team or create a team of their own with friends or neighbors. Those who are sent a link to join a team must register at the link, join the challenge and click the team link provided by a team captain. To create a team, visit the Challenge page and click the Create a Team button.
People can log their rides and win prizes, such as equipment handy while riding bikes. Challenge top honors and the Bike Month Trophy will go to the team with the most trips at the end of May.
Throughout the month there will be events and pop-up kiosks with free giveaways to encourage and support bike riding all year. People can visit The Shift calendar for Bike Month Challenge 2025 events to find an event or pop-up near them.
Get There partners will be offering trip-planning resources, biking and commuting tips and free giveaways at community events such as Portland Sunday Parkways and Bike Beaverton, find a “bike buddy” event with Bike Loud, or enjoy a free coffee and doughnuts at a commute pop-up in Clackamas County.
National Bike Month was established in 1956.
