September 14, 1935 – April 2, 2025 – Rollin (Ron) George Love, a Portland native through and through, was born at Emanuel Hospital on September 14, 1935, and passed away at home with family by his side on April 2, 2025. Ron spent his formative years in Portland, attending Irvington and Alameda schools, and graduated from Grant High School.
In October of 1954, Ron began his service in the Army and proudly completed his duty on his 21st birthday. Upon returning to Portland, he enrolled at Portland State University and graduated in 1960.
Ron soon embarked on a career in the insurance industry, beginning his journey at the offices of Pownall Taylor and Hays. In 1984, he transitioned to Jewett, Barton, Leavy and Kern Inc., a well-established regional Portland brokerage. After a dedicated career spanning 35 years, Ron retired in 1997.
A lover of the outdoors, Ron had a passion for skiing and spent over 13 years teaching at Timberline Lodge. During the summer months, he enjoyed building and restoring Ford hotrods and was actively involved with the Early Ford V8 Club, where he served as a National Director and Chief Judge for 54 years. Ron’s dedication to the community extended to his longstanding membership at the Multnomah Athletic Club, where he was a member for 56 years. He cherished the companionship of his friends deeply, hosting an annual gathering with his Portland High School friends on the first Friday of December for over 35 years.
Ron shared his first marriage of 25 years with Betsy Love, with whom he had two children: Holly Love, married to John Codding of Santa Rosa, California, and Andy Love, married to Carrie Love of Portland, Oregon. Carrie and Andy have a son, Oscar Love. He later married his second wife, Judy Love, and they spent 26 years together.
