Debra “Debbie” Lynn (Stewart) Wright

January 15, 1949 – January 1, 2025 – Debra “Debbie” Lynn (Stewart) Wright of Canby, Oregon passed away suddenly on January 1, 2025, due to complications of a stroke. She was born January 15, 1949, to Marjorie and Homer Stewart in Sandpoint, Idaho.

She attended Canby High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart Gary Wright on June 22, 1968, in Canby.

Debbie and Gary had two children; Kevin and Staci, and built a life together raising their family on the outskirts of Canby. Gary built a thriving business, while Debbie stayed closer to home raising the kids, coaching their sports, leading 4H and even driving school buses. When the kids were finally out of the house, Debbie pursued work in garden and nurseries – she was skilled with a green thumb. Debbie and Gary enjoyed their travels, antiquing and working on old hot rod cars until Gary passed away in 2014.

In recent years, Debbie enjoyed spending her spare time watching her grandchildren participate in their favorite events and activities. She became an expert cheerleader in soccer, lacrosse, football, tennis, competitive trap shooting, Lego robotics and chess tournaments. She was blessed with still having her best friends from high school in her life and enjoyed meeting them weekly for coffee and catching up. She also loved playing Bingo at the coast, when she could sneak away. She spent countless hours (and years) helping organize the annual Cutforth’s Cruise-in and loved the interactions she had with all in the car community.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests a donation be made to Whiskey Hill Kids Sports for the Wright Family Scholarship Fund. (PO Box 784, Canby, OR 97013) Debbie felt strongly that the kids who lived in the country should have the same opportunities as those who lived in town – which is why she helped found Whiskey Hill Kids with other families who lived in the area.

Debbie is survived by her son Kevin Wright; daughter-in-law Rebecca Wright; daughter Staci Wright all of Canby; five grandchildren Hayden, Claire, and Drew Wright and Colby and Kyle Damgaard. She was proceeded in death by husband Gary Wright and brother Dennie Stewart.

A celebration of life will be held on March 22, 11:00 at Cutsforth’s Old Towne Hall in Canby.
