Here’s who’s heading to state high school golf and tennis from Portland

As the spring high school sports calendar is coming to a close, a handful of Portland city athletes are heading to state in golf and tennis.
All state golf tournaments will be held May 19-20 with the 6A and 5A boys at OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, meanwhile the 4A boys will be at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie and the 3A/2A/1A boys are at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.
On the girls side, the 6A and 5A girls will be at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell and the the 4A/3A/2A/1A girls will be at Trysting Tree.
For tennis, the entire 6A tournament for boys and girls will be held May 22-24 at the Tualatin Hills Recreation Center and 4A will be the same days at Oregon State University. Class 5A will start at West Hills Recreation Center and move to Tualatin Hills for the later rounds on May 23-24.
Here’s who is qualifying from the PIL, Mt. Hood Conference, Parkrose and small school conferences in the city of Portland.
Boys tennis
Lincoln boys tennis dominated, taking six of the eight available state spots between singles and doubles. The four semifinalists in each bracket are the ones who earn state spots.
Cayden Laughton dominated the field and took down teammate Heath Silver in the championship.
The third/fourth place match featured Joshua Parker Howard of McDaniel and Wylly Fields from Lincoln with Howard coming out on top for third.
Switching to doubles, the duo of Roland Alexander/Charlie Torch from Lincoln won the PIL crown over Grant’s duo of Miles Porter/Rafael Valverde.
For third place, it was two more Lincoln duos with Evan Solodky/Jonathan Wilkinson taking third over teammates Anderson Kitzis/Becker Husbands in fourth.
In the Mt. Hood Conference, Central Catholic’s Jonah Black won the individual event to move on to the state tournament. His teammate Finn Johnson took third to earn a bid as well.
Girls tennis
Benson’s Carlyta Barfield is the PIL girls tennis individual champ after taking down Grant’s Elizabeth Sacks in the title match. Both head to state as the four semifinalists all earn bids.
Grant’s Adeline Backer made it two Generals moving on after taking third place over Wells’ Isa Llados in fourth.
On the doubles side, Lincoln got on the board with the duo of Sitara Soman/Reese Hefele winning the PIL crown. Grant’s Mia Farr/Emma Tradjedin took second.
In the third place match, Lincoln’s Zoe Lazzara/Scarlett Dempsey took down Grant’s Maddy Naugler/Ruby Hanson.
In the Mt. Hood, David Douglas’ Amy Do was the top local finisher taking second place in the tournament to make it to state. Central Catholic’s Isabel McDonald took third with a win over David Douglas’ Katelyn Vo in fourth place.
On the doubles side, Erica Zanavich/Coco Stanford from Central Catholic finished in second to make state. The Rams also got Lucy Chandler/Finleigh Monk to state after the duo took third.
In 5A, Parkrose’s lone representative will be Trina Dinh after she took home third place in the Northwest Oregon Conference individual tournament.
Riverdale will also send one player to state after Nina Rinard took third in the district tournament.
Boys golf
The Cleveland boys golf team won the PIL title, led by the top five of Sam Faherty, Riley Mortola, Will Paulus, Jack Robertson and Brady Ryan.
The two individuals to make it to state from league play were a pair of Lincoln Cardinals in Quinn Hefele, the PIL individual champion, and Ethan Chang.
At the Special District 1 regional tournament, no extra PIL teams made the cut, but Ida B. Wells’ Otto LaPrete qualified for state as an individual.
In the Mt. Hood, Central Catholic won the league crown for a second consecutive year and will have six golfers at state in Michael Baldwin, Dylan Crowell, Blake Kappes, Lucas DePalma, Milo Moskowitz and Finn Briscoe.
David Douglas’ Micah Chadwick is also heading to state after snagging one of the two individual spots from the Mt. Hood standings.
Girls golf
Cleveland made it a sweep of the team titles with the Warriors taking the girls PIL crown as well, led by the top five of Kate Ly, Sarah Maderos, Brielle Schneider, Mei Tyvand and Sydney Hamel.
The two individual spots straight to state from the PIL were Lennon Schmidt of Wells and Abby Amico of Grant.
In the Special District 1 meet, no extra teams made it to state but Lincoln’s Jade Malech made the cut to get a Cardinal to Emerald Valley.
In the Mt. Hood, Central Catholic tied for second to head to the Special District 2 regional, but lost a tiebreaker for the second and final state spot. Berkley Beam still made the cut though and will represent the Rams at state.
David Douglas’ Olivia Satterthwaite was the other individual to make it out of the SD2 regional with a state spot.
St. Mary’s Academy will also have a representative at state with Chloe Swientek making it out of the Three Rivers League with an individual spot.
Portland will have some say in the 4A/3A/2A/1A class as well after Riverdale took second in the Special District 2 tournament, led by Sofia D’Uva, Jayden Pridemore, Hallie McCarthy, Dylan Plush and Emilia Mudrick.
