Nationally-seeded Oregon softball wrapped up the second day of the 2025 NCAA softball championship regional round with a 1-1 split, taking a 14-1 loss at the hands of No. 2-seed Stanford before beating Weber State __ to keep its postseason alive.

No. 2 Stanford 14, No. 1 Oregon 1

The Ducks first game Saturday was a demoralizing, six-inning loss to the Cardinal. Stanford, the first team to miss out on a host-site bid in the 64-team field, tore through Oregon’s four-deep pitching staff for 12 hits, including and four home runs, and six free passes.

Elise Sokolsky (15-4) took the loss, letting up five hits and a single earned-run, the fewest of the four. Right-handed junior Lyndsey Grein surrendered two of her own with three innings of relief, while redshirt senior Staci Chambers and sophomore Taylour Spencer were touched up for a combined 10 runs and recorded just three outs.

Oregon’s trio of freshman bats — second baseman Kaylynn Jones, designated-player Stefini Ma’ake and first baseman Rylee McCoy — were responsible for a base knock apiece in the three-hit performance by the Ducks. All three hit singles, with Ma’ake’s fourth-inning swing drove in pinch runner Regan Legg from second base, plating Oregon’s lone run of the losing affair.

Just a handful of hours later, the Ducks took to the diamond of Jane Sanders Stadium for their second game of the day. The 9-1 routing of third-seeded Weber State kept Oregon’s postseason alive in the double-elimination regional.

Weber State and Oregon traded blows in the first frame and playing a close one through three. But with a four-run first inning, the Ducks put away the Big Sky Conference champion Wildcats and single-handedly eliminated them from the 2025 postseason.

Oregon’s 15-hit performance was a program record for hits in an NCAA tournament game.

Back-to-back RBI doubles by shortstop Paige Sinicki and McCoy accounted for the first two runs of that fourth frame, followed up by senior outfielder Kedre Luschar’s two-run homer. Luschar’s spot in the order came up again an inning later, driving in her older sister, Kai, for an RBI-double.

Grien’s tough day in the circle continued in her game two start. The junior gave up a pair of hits and a run before being lifted, accounting for three earned runs in four innings across Saturday’s two games.

Oregon’s other ace, Sokolsky (16-4), returned to form in her second outing against Weber State and earned her second decision of the day with the six-inning relief appearance. Despite walking five, Sokolsky allowed just one hit and shutout the Wildcats.

On Deck

The game two win keeps No. 16-seed Oregon’s postseason hopes alive for at least one more day, getting a second — and third — shot at Stanford. To get back to a super regional, and avoid the upset, the Ducks will have to take back-to-back games from the Cardinal.

First pitch of game two is slated for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, at Jane Sanders Stadium. If Oregon wins game one, a 6 p.m. rubber match would follow.
