SHERWOOD - The Sherwood High School girls soccer team got its league schedule off to a winning start as it scored a 5-2 victory over Wilsonville in a Northwest Oregon Conference opener played Tuesday at Sherwood.

'It was a good win. It was a good way to start league,' Sherwood coach Bill Brown said. 'We played very well on offense, but still need to do some work on the defensive side.'

In Tuesday's match, Sherwood took a 3-0 halftime lead behind goals by junior Meghan Schoen, junior Mikayla Howes and senior Lauren Vasquez.

Then, in the second half, Lady Bowmen freshman Sarah Garoutte scored back-to-back goals 30 seconds apart.

For the game, Schoen had two assists while Howes, senior Alex Teesdale and Garoutte had one assist apiece for Sherwood, which outshot Wilsonville by a 25-5 margin.

With the victory, the Lady Bowmen upped their overall record to 8-0. Wilsonville moved to 2-4-2 on the season.

Sherwood will be back in action today (Thursday) when it plays a Liberty in a league match starting at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, the Lady Bowmen will be home to face Putnam at 7 p.m.
