Portland Fire and Rescue crews work to contain a blaze that appeared to be concentrated in the back of a Southeast Portland house on Saturday afternoon.

Fire heavily damaged a Southeast Portland house Saturday.

No one was injured in the blaze.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, at 12:06 p.m. on Nov. 15, crews were called to a residential fire at 8036 S.E. Martins St. They arrived to flames coming from the back of the house.

Firefighters quickly attacked the fire, which was primarily on the outside of the home, while simultaneously checking the house to make sure all occupants were out.

Firefighters were able to knock down the main body of the fire, but fully extinguishing it took longer because the fire was actively burning inside the walls and in the attic space. Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof of the house to release toxic and flammable fire gases.

A fire investigation is underway to determine a cause and damage assessment.
