Try 13 of everything: Baker’s Dozen Fest brings coffee, beer and doughnuts to Portland

One of the shorts playing at Hollywood Theatre at PDX is a feature on Delicious Donuts in Southeast Portland.

Sometimes a dozen just isn’t enough.

The annual Baker’s Dozen Fest honors the need for something more than the standard 12 items, with its 13 breweries, 13 roasteries and 13 doughnuteries, celebrating foodie favorites in Portland.

Returning for its ninth iteration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, this event features three things the city does well: beer, coffee and doughnuts.

Its name is an homage to a tradition started when baker’s would throw an extra item into a dozen of selected goods, giving someone 13 doughnuts instead of 12, for example.

Located at The Zed at Zoiglhaus, 5716 S.E. 92nd Ave., attendees can try a lineup of vendors with a ticket purchase of $40, or $50 at the door if available.

Baker’s Dozen noted this event sells out annually.

This year’s selections come from new and returning breweries from Portland, including Lazy Days, Great Notion and Cerveceria Norte, stretching to Hood River’s pFriem and Ferment, all the way to Toledo’s Brewery XO in collaboration with Silver Falls Brewing.

Each brew incorporates a different local roaster’s beans, and samples come in a 3-ounce pour. Unlimited coffee samples are offered, as are doughnut samples that will be quartered.

The doughnut shops include: Annie’s Donuts, Blue Star Donuts, Coco Donuts, Delicious Donuts, Don Bigote’s Churros, Donut World, Heavenly Donuts, Joe’s Donuts, JoNuts, Mochinut, Sesame Donuts and Too Sweet Cakes.

Proceeds from the event help to support All Hands Raised, a nonprofit dedicated to benefiting Portland public schools, with a focus on racial inequality.
