HOLIDAY MESSAGE: It’s a Wonderful Life … Be a Clarence

A columnist gets a little poetic with Frank Capra's holiday classic.

Every now and then, a challenge will arise, needing God’s intervention, for a lost soul to survive.

Man jumping off a bridge, for insurance money that it brings; Clarence Odbody jumps off first, planning to earn his Angel wings.

Because Clarence cannot swim, he begins to yell and shout; George Bailey jumps in too, pulling his Guardian Angel out.

George thinks the world would be a better place, if he was never born; Angel Second Class Clarence, asks Gabriel to help toot George’s horn.

Angel Odbody, still trying to earn his wings, shows George that he’s done, so many wonderful things.

Thinking back when George was young, saving brother drowning in a lake, years later Harry saved hundreds of men, a pilot hero for heaven’s sake.

Can’t forget Druggist Gower, saved from sending a bad prescription, George saves another life, fine contribution to his life’s subscription.

Bailey’s old Building and Loan, rival of banker Old Man Potter’s; George gets to see what the town would be, a town now full of squatters.

Clarence shows George, unwed and childless Librarian Mary, no kids, not Zuzu and her petals, a burden he can’t carry.

Along with Burt and Ernie, a taxi driver and a cop, Clarence shows George’s life is wonderful, it’s really at the top.

Angel Clarence is a healer, a teacher and a guide, showing George God’s plan on earth and why he’s alive.

Family, friends and neighbors rally, tell George not to fear it, all pitch in to save George, with Clarence’s Christmas spirit.

Zuzu’s teacher tells us, “every time a bell rings” an Angel is awarded, and earns their Angel Wings.

Saga nears its end, Christmas bell on the tree rings, sounding Clarence finally earned his Heavenly Angel wings.

So, not just during the holidays, of Hanukah, Christmas, and Kwanza, complete a task like Clarence, leading you to a heavenly Nirvana.

Peace, Love and Joy to all, good work is our daily chore; Be a Clarence, help a George, a gift God will adore.

Happy Holidays.
