Home-grown bluegrass concert on tap at Gresham’s Multnomah Grange

The Misty Mamas and Free Range will perform during an upcoming bluegrass concert in East County.

The Bluegrass Show and Jam comes to Multnomah Grange No. 71, 30639 S.E. Bluff Road, Gresham. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Suggested donations are $15 per adult and $5 per child 12 and younger.

THE MISTY MAMAS

This band formed in 2005 and has become a staple of the acoustic music scene in Portland and Vancouver.

With decades of experience, Misty Mamas performs powerful harmonies, traditional and original songs, as well as instrumentals combining the American genres of bluegrass, old-time gospel, folk and country music.

The Misty Mamas are Katherine Nitsch (vocals and guitar), April Parker (vocals, mandolin, accordion) and Eileen Rocci (vocals and upright bass).

The band got its name from Carol Harley, founding member of the Misty Mamas and the very popular local Americana band Misty River. Harley has retired from the band.

FREE RANGE

Free Range is a musical duo performing a blend of bluegrass, country and traditional folk styles.

Free Range is two voices, accompanied by guitar, banjo and dobro.

According to their website, Matt Snook plays dobro and banjo, and sings leads and harmonies, contributing original songs and deadpanned one-liners. Claire Levine sings leads and harmonies and plays guitar and banjo. By day she’s a writer and internal communications specialist.

Audiences will recognize some of the tunes while others will be new.
