Another Tuesday, another set of College Football Playoff rankings.

The Oregon Ducks stayed locked into their No. 1 position, with it looking like they’ll hold the spot so long as they stay undefeated. Oregon improved to 10-0 for the first time since 2010, where the Ducks rounded out the regular season undefeated before falling to Auburn in the national championship.
For those who may have missed last week’s rankings release, 2024 marks the first season of the 12-team playoff after a decade of a four-team structure. The model accounts for five automatic bids to the five highest-ranked conference champions and seven at-large selections.
While Oregon stayed atop the poll, plenty of movement was had beneath it.

The current iteration features Oregon, BYU, Texas and Miami all receiving first-round byes as the projected conference champions of the Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and ACC, respectively. Boise State hangs on to its spot as the fifth auto-bid, but would not get a bye week or host a first-round game.
Ohio State slots in at No. 2 in the poll, but would get the No. 5 seed in the bracket with Oregon ahead of the Buckeyes. Currently, they’d host Boise State for a first-round matchup, with the winner advancing to play Miami.
Penn State checks in at No. 4 in the poll, but seeded at No. 6 due to the pair of Big Ten squads ahead of the Nittany Lions in the rankings. Penn State would host Ole Miss, who holds both a No. 11 ranking and the No. 11 seed. The winner would advance to play BYU.
Indiana marks the fourth Big Ten program to check into the CFP Ranking’s top five. Like Penn State and Ohio State, Indiana’s seeding is lower than its ranking, taking the No. 7 spot. The Hoosiers would play host Alabama, holding both the No. 10 ranking and seeding. The winner would advance to play Texas.
Tennessee is currently the lowest-ranked program that would host a playoff game if the regular season ended today. The Vols check in at No. 7 in the rankings, but No. 8 in the bracket. Neyland Stadium would host Notre Dame, with the Fighting Irish owning a No. 8 ranking and a No. 9 seeding. The winner would advance to play Oregon.
Georgia checks in at No. 12 in the rankings, but would not make the College Football Playoff if the season ended today, with Boise State at No. 13 leapfrogging the Bulldogs for the fifth automatic bid.
