A Portland restaurant has been given a top honor at the James Beard Awards in a ceremony in Chicago.

A Thai tasting menu food restaurant, Langbaan, 1818 N.W. 23rd Place, has been named Outstanding Restaurant. Earl Ninsom is executive chef and owner.

The criteria: A restaurant that demonstrates consistent excellence in food, atmosphere, hospitality, and operations, while contributing positively to its broader community.

The awards honor excellence across the culinary industry, from fine dining to casual gems in our communities, while also supporting and encouraging a more sustainable industry. The full list of winners can be found below and on the James Beard Foundation website.

Portland chef and Kann restaurant owner Gregory Gourdet served as a presenter. And he took home a James Beard Award as Best Chef: Northwest & Pacific — the third consecutive year he has won an award.

The overall Outstanding Chef was Michael Rafidi of Albi in Washington, D.C. A Portland pizza chef, Sarah Minnick of Lovely’s Fifty Fifty, 4039 N. Mississippi Ave., was up for the award.
