White Bird Dance brings great dance companies to Portland — for 28 years now — and it has announced the 2025-26 lineup.
Said publicity: “Whether you’re drawn to genre-defying spectacle or timeless modern dance, this season promises a powerful journey through movement, music, and meaning.”
The lineup (along with descriptions from White Bird, and venues TBD):
Complexions Contemporary Ballet, New York City, Oct. 2-4
World-renowned for their physicality, virtuosity, and signature style, Complexions returns with a crowd-pleasing mixed repertoire program featuring Dwight Rhoden’s “For Crying Out Loud,” a new work set to U2 songs from their latest release “Songs of Surrender.” Fusing popular music and ballet technique, this beloved company is set to open White Bird’s 2025-26 season with flair.
Limon Dance Company, New York City, Oct. 22
A giant of American modern dance, Limón Dance Company brings an evening of mixed repertoire that bridges past and present. Audiences will experience José Limón’s masterwork “A Choreographic Offering,” alongside works by modern dance pioneer Doris Humphrey and contemporary choreographer Kayla Farrish.
Lali Ayguade Company, Barcelona, Spain, Nov. 13-15
Making their White Bird debut, Barcelona’s Lali Ayguadé Company will perform “Runa,” an award-winning duet that delicately explores memory, connection, and transformation. With intimacy and raw power, this work showcases Ayguadé’s poetic choreographic voice.
Compagnie Herve Koubi, Calais, France, Jan. 21, 2026
Gravity-defying athleticism meets spiritual uplift in Hervé Koubi’s newest work “Sol Invictus,” named after the “invincible” sun deity. Drawing on martial arts, breaking, and acrobatics, this work celebrates solidarity, light, and human connection. Back by popular demand, this will be the company’s third production with White Bird after two hugely successful engagements.
Urban Bush Women, Brookyn, New York, Feb. 5-7, 2026
Marking their 40th anniversary, Urban Bush Women shares “This Is Risk,” a mixed repertoire celebration of bold storytelling through dance and live music. Founded to amplify the unheard stories of Black Women+, this acclaimed company will bring an energetically charged evening highlighting some of their most notable works.
